  • The outdoor theater brings touring acts within walking distance of your room
  • Temecula's vineyards and the Palomar Mountain road are both close
  • Rural setting with hills around it rather than city traffic

Drawbacks

Rooms

Accommodation sits in a hotel tower above the main building, with standard rooms and a range of suites on the upper floors. Room types are refreshed from time to time, so the layouts, bed options and views described on the official site are the ones to trust when you book.

Views vary from the surrounding hills and valley to the parking structures and roofs of the resort, so if outlook matters, ask the hotel which room categories face the hills. Ask too about accessible rooms, connecting rooms and quiet floors away from lifts if you are a light sleeper.

Pools & spa

The pool complex, known as the Tourmaline Pools, has several pools, hot tubs, a bar and private cabanas that can be reserved for the day. It has been run as an adults-only area, and hours may be shortened on afternoons when the outdoor theater next door has a show, so ask the hotel about age rules, cabana booking and the schedule for your dates.

The Spa at Pala offers massages, facials and body treatments, with relaxation spaces for guests between appointments. Treatment menus change, so look at the current list and book ahead, particularly for Saturdays and holiday weekends.

Restaurants & bars

Several kitchens share the property. The Oak Room is the steakhouse and the place for a slower evening meal; Mama's Cucina Italiana covers Italian dishes; Noodles serves Asian noodle bowls and similar quick plates; and there are coffee, pizza and casual counters for daytime. The pool area has its own bar and food service in season.

Venues, menus and opening days change through the year. Before you plan an anniversary dinner or a late meal after a concert, check current opening hours with the hotel and book where reservations are taken.

Shows & entertainment

The Starlight Theater is an open-air venue on the property used for concerts and comedy, mostly in the warmer months. Evenings in the valley cool down after sunset, so a light layer is useful. Tickets are sold separately from rooms; the resort's events calendar lists what is coming.

The resort also has indoor event space for private functions, weddings and meetings, plus lounges with live music on some nights.

Facilities list

  • Hotel tower: rooms and suites
  • The Spa at Pala
  • Pool area with cabanas
  • Several restaurants and bars
  • Outdoor Starlight Theater
  • Event and meeting space
  • Casino on site
  • On-site parking — confirm current arrangements

What's nearby

Temecula wine country

Dozens of tasting rooms line the roads east of Temecula, roughly half an hour north of Pala. Many ask for weekend reservations, and a designated driver or a tour shuttle is wise.

Palomar Mountain

East along Highway 76, the winding South Grade Road climbs toward Palomar Observatory and its great dome. Check the observatory's visitor hours before the drive, and allow for cooler air at the top.

Mission San Antonio de Pala

Minutes from the resort, this mission chapel with its separate bell tower is still an active parish. Visitors are welcome to look around quietly; check opening times locally.

How to get there

By road. Pala lies on State Route 76, east of Interstate 15. Most visitors arrive by car, either from the I-15 Pala Road exit or via Pala Temecula Road from the north.

From San Diego (SAN). San Diego International Airport is the main option to the south; plan on roughly an hour or more by car, depending on traffic on I-15.

From Ontario (ONT). Ontario International Airport, in the Inland Empire to the north, is another choice, also reached by road through Temecula. A rental car gives you the most freedom; ask the hotel whether it can arrange an airport transfer or shuttle.

Practical information

Five points worth a phone call or email to the front desk.

Resort fee
A nightly amenity charge may be added at some properties in the region; ask Pala whether one applies here and what it includes.
Parking
Self-parking and valet have been available; confirm current options and any charge for your stay.
Cancellation
Flexible and prepaid rates usually carry different deadlines, so read the fine print for the rate you pick.
Best season
Mild weather tends to arrive in spring and again in autumn. Inland summer afternoons run hot, though that is when the open-air theater is busiest.
Check-in age
Pala sets its own minimum age for registering a room and a separate one for the pools; get both confirmed in writing.
